Summary

In October 2008, Board of County Commissioners of Broward County passed a resolution creating the County Green Building Policy. All new County-owned and operated buildings must achieve a minimum Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating of "LEED Certified," meaning the project must attain a minimum of 26 points in the United States Green Building Council's (USGBC) rating system. All County projects deemed eligible for the program must register with the USGBC and must be certified by a third party green building rater.

The Construction Management Division is responsible for coordinating educational, technical, and financial resources to support sustainable design and construction. As of January 2012, Broward County has four government buildings that have been built to LEED standards.
