City of Tallahassee Utilities (CTU) offers residential customers rebates for the purchase of ENERGY STAR appliances and heating and cooling equipment. Qualifying appliances include refrigerators, freezers and clothes washers. Rebates also exist for electric HVAC systems including: central air conditioners, heat pumps and water heaters. CTU provides separate rebates for customers who upgrade their existing equipment to more efficient natural gas models. Incentivized items include furnaces, ovens, water heaters, and outdoor lighting. Bonus rebates can be achieved for natural gas equipment by purchasing and installing multiple eligible items at one time.
CTU insulation grant program will cover 80% of the installation costs of ceiling insulation, up to $400. For income-qualified customers these maximums expand to 100% of insulation costs, up to $500. The efficiency rating of the new insulation must be R-38 if the home is heated by a natural gas furnace, oil furnace, or electric heat pump, and R-49 if the home is heated by a central electric resistance furnace.
See the CTU website for applications, program guidelines, and rebate terms.
