In 2017, Amazon announced that it had a goal of getting a solar panel installation on 50 fulfillment centers by 2020. But in July Amazon announced that they had met their goal, with 32 solar-powered systems installed in the U.S., 12 in the European Union and Seven are in India.

Surpassing its goal, Amazon has installed Colorado’s largest single rooftop solar panel installation at its robotics fulfillment center in Thronton. The Solar-powered system contains 17,280 solar panels that will span of 19 acres. The solar panel installation will be able to generate over 6 MW of solar power capacity. This solar panel installation is going to start producing solar electricity in November.

Colorado isn’t the installation pining for large solar panel installations, Nevada may soon join them. A new solar power facility north of the Las Vegas Valley is set to become one of the world’s largest. Project Gemini would take up about 11 square miles of BLM land, making it about three times larger than the nearby Moapa Solar Energy array. 

The idea is that on a sunny day the solar panels will turn the sun’s rays into usable solar energy for us but store some of the solar power in a large array of batteries. If approved, Las Vegas residents will soon have the option to tap into solar power generated by Project Gemini.
