Morocco will fully switch on the 580 MW »Noor Ouarzazate« (NOORo) solar power plant in October, said Chinese consultancy CSP Focus, citing the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (MASEN). The first stage »NOORo I«, a 160 MW parabolic trough CSP plant, has been launched in February 2016. »NOORo II« (200 MW, CSP) and »NOORo IV« (70 MW, PV) will be completed in May 2018, while »NOORo III« (150 MW, power tower CSP) will be connected in October 2018

The Moroccan Solar Energy Program targets to generate 42 percent of the country’s electrical power from renewable energy by 2020, and 52 percent by 2030. By the end of the current year Morocco will have 887 MW of solar power capacity in operation, 1,207 MW of wind power and north of 1,700 MW of hydro power plants, says CSP Focus. »Besides the launch of the phases II, III and IV at Noor Ouarzazate, this year MASEN is also expected to complete the technical and financial evaluations of the offers for the Noor Midelt, Noor Tafilalet and Noor PV 2 projects.«

Deep discussions on Morocco’s CSP market and Noor CSP complex will be among the key topics during the upcoming CSP Focus MENA 2018 event in Marrakech, Morocco during June 27-28, 2018.
