US developer of concentrating solar power (CSP) plants Solarreserve LLC has opened an Australian headquarter in the South Australian capital Adelaide and a field office in Port Augusta just weeks after receiving development approval from the South Australian Government for its »Aurora« solar energy project. Solarreserve will construct the 150 MW solar thermal power facility with a 1,100 MWh of energy storage capability near the town of Port Augusta, South Australia, about 300 km north of Adelaide.
Solarreserve received development approval in January, final approvals are expected in the first half of 2018. Construction of the AUD 650 million ($587 million) facility will begin in 2018 and is estimated to be completed in 2020. In August 2017, Solarreserve has signed a long-term 20 year Generation Project Agreement (GPA).
