China’s National Energy Administration (NEA) released its official statistics regarding the overall power sector development in 2017. According to consultancy Asia Europe Clean Energy (Solar) Advisory Co. Ltd. (AECEA), new added solar PV power generation capacity in 2017 amounted to 52.83 GW. China’s share of the global PV market increased to approximately 50 percent, says the company. By the end of 2017, the country’s total installed PV power generation capacity was about 130.25 GW. representing 7.3 percent of the total existing national power generation capacities. Detailed PV related statistics are expected to be released soon, says the consultancy.
Overall, during 2017, China added in total 133 GW of power generation capacities including hydro 12.8 GW, thermal power 45.78 GW, and solar PV 52.83 GW. »For the first time more clean, green, climate friendly solar PV power generation capacities were added compared to thermal power,« says AECEA. In 2016, China added 34.54 GW PV power.
