US developer of concentrating solar power (CSP) plants Solarreserve LLC has received development approval for its »Aurora« solar energy« project. The legal document enables Solarreserve to construct the facility, a 150 MW solar thermal power station with a 1,100 MWh of energy storage capability near the town of Port Augusta, South Australia.
According to the company, the approval process examined a range of elements including environmental, community, and social impacts of the project, which were assessed by several South Australian Government agencies. Final approvals are expected in the first half of 2018. Construction of the AUD 650 million ($587 million) facility will begin in 2018 and is estimated to be completed in 2020. In August 2017, Solarreserve has signed a long-term 20 year Generation Project Agreement (GPA).
