The »Ronda 2« call for tenders for renewable energy projects in Argentina, which opened in August, is heavily oversubscribed. The tender was for an installed capacity of 1.2 GW in total, including 550 MW of wind and 450 MW of solar power plants as well as 100 MW of biomass, 35 MW of biogas, 15 MW of biogas from landfills and 50 MW of small hydropower. At the end of last week, however, the Ministry of Energy and Mining (Ministerio de Energia y Mineria) announced the receipt of bids for 9.4 GW, including 3.82 GW of wind and 5.29 GW of solar power.

99 photovoltaic projects with outputs between one and 100 MW were submitted. The call for tenders focused on the western half of the Región del Norte Grande Argentino and the Región del Nuevo Cuyo with a planned volume of 200 MW each. The entries were 2.78 GW for the northwest and 2.15 GW for Cuyo, and 355 MW for the rest of the country. The maximum price for the electricity generated in the plants was limited to ¢5.704/kWh. The announcement of the awarded projects is scheduled for November.
