In August, 6,563 photovoltaic systems with a total capacity of 162.442 MW were registered at the German Bundesnetzagentur (Federal Network Agency), including 26 ground-mounted systems with a total of 48.602 MW.
This means that all months of the current year have so far been above the previous month in terms of newly installed capacity. In extrapolation for the year as a whole, the newly installed capacity to date, however, only amounts to 1.83 GW. Although this would be an increase compared to 2016 (1.53 GW) and 2015 (1.47 GW), the Renewable Energy Sources Act (Erneuerbare-Energien-Gesetz, EEG) actually defines an annual target of 2.5 GW.
At the end of August, the cumulative photovoltaic capacity installed in Germany and subsidised by the EEG amounted to 42.331 GW.
