During an appearance in front of supporters in Iowa, US president Donald Trump confirmed that he is seriously considering a »solar wall« on the Mexican border. The border fortification which Trump had already announced in his election campaign should therefore be covered with solar modules, and the produced electricity should contribute to financing the construction.
US government had requested for proposals for the border wall some months ago. In early April, these proposals were evaluated, and one of them was the project of a »solar wall« from Las Vegas-based company Gleason Partners LLC. Trump has since then repeatedly passed the idea as his own.
