The Tokyo-based company — which also develops wind and biomass projects — closed financing on the installation with Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank in September. The PV array will span 68 hectares of land in the industrial city of Yokkaichi, Mie prefecture, near Nagoya. It will be connected to the grid in March 2019, with annual power generation projected at 24.3 GWh.
Renova will finish building two more utility-scale PV projects in Japan within the next two years. In July 2018, it aims to complete a 48.0 MW solar array in Karumai, Iwate prefecture. By the end of that calendar year, it will finish building 80.8 MW of additional solar capacity in the same northern Japanese town.
The company — which listed shares on the Tokyo Stock Exchange’s (TSE) Mothers board at the beginning of this year — already operates several large solar projects throughout the country. Its bigger PV installations include a 40 MW plant in Futtsu, Chiba prefecture, and a 24.8 MW array in Nasu-Shiobara, Tochigi prefecture. It also generates electricity at a 15.3 MW site in Itako, Ibaraki prefecture.
