Seven large-scale solar power plants with a combined capacity of 94 MW were connected to the grid in the USA in July 2017, according to the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s (FERC) Energy Infrastructure Update. From January to July about 214 large-scale projects totaling 2,346 MW were put in service, compared to 233 totaling 2,617 MW in the same period 2016.

According to Mercom Capital Group, the top four connected PV facilities are MS Solar 2’s »Sumrail Project« (52 MW in Lamar County, Mississippi), Jacumba Solar’s »Jucumba« project (20 MW in San Diego County, California), USPS 1A and 2A (11 MW, in Los Angeles County, California) and Onyx Renewable Partners LP’s »Brockton Landfill Solar Project« (5 MW in Plymouth County, Massachusetts).

Total installed power generating capacity in the USA is about 1,189 GW. This include: natural gas 516 GW (43.44 percent), coal 284 GW (23.92 percent), nuclear 108 GW (9.09 percent), water 100 GW (8.46 percent), wind 85 GW (7.20 percent), oil 43 GW (3.67 percent), solar 27.49 GW (2.31 percent), biomass 16 GW (1.41 percent), geothermal steam 3.80 GW (0.32 percent), waste heat 1.26 GW (0.11 percent) and other 0.81 GW (0.07 percent).
