The state-owned electricity supplier Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, DEWA, has awarded a consortium consisting of Chinese Shanghai Electric and ACWA (Saudi Arabia) a contract to build the world's highest solar tower power plant (Concentrated Solar Power, CSP) with 260 meters as Independent Power Producer (IPP), according to UAE news agency »WAM«. The investment for the solar power plant with a capacity of 700 MW is about AED14.2 billion ($3.9 billion).

The completed plant, fourth phase of the Mohammed bin Raschid al-Maktum solar park, will supply Dubai with electricity at a price of about $0,073 per kWh, the agency states. »The power purchase agreement and the financial deal will be completed soon.« The project will be commissioned in stages, starting from the fourth quarter of 2020.

The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park is the largest single-site solar park in the world, based on the IPP model. It will generate 1,000 MW by 2020 and 5,000 MW by 2030.
