Spanish solar company Solaria Energía y Medio Ambiente has announced that it has completed its second large-scale PV project in Uruguay.
The state-owned power company UTE (Usinas and Trasmisiones Eléctricas) has granted the definitive start-up certificate confirming that the plant complies with all the requirements to begin the commercial operation, the company said in a statement.
The plant Natelu S.A. has an installed capacity of 9.5 MWand is located in Mercedes, in the department of Soriano. The project was financed by the Inter-American Investment Corporation (IIC), which is a member of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Group, and the Canadian Climate Fund (C2F). The amount of the investment was $12.2 million
The first project of Solaria in Uruguay, the Yarnel plant, is also 9.5 MW. This facility, which was connected to the grid in July, is located in the town of Young, in the department of Río Negro.
As reported by the IIC in May 2016, the Yarnel and Natelu plants are projects with fixed structures. Solaria reported in October 2014 that it had signed two PPAs with UTE for the plants.
The two projects have been realized within the framework of a program for approximately 200 MW of solar launched by the government of Uruguay in 2013.
