According to local media reports, Intraco Solar Power has signed agreements for a 30 MW PV plant, to be connected to the country’s grid 13 months from now.
Bangladeshi newspaper The Daily Star reported that the country’s Power Development Board had signed a construction agreement with Intraco, as well as a PPA to procure power generated at the plant for 20 years at the rate of $0.16/kWh.
The project is being financed by the Dhaka based Infrastructure Development Company, as well as local banks, and the project owners will now look to select an EPC partner for the project’s construction.
Small rooftop systems have already proved hugely popular in Bangladesh, where an estimated 30% of the population has no access to electricity. Large-scale renewables, however, are virtually non-existent in the country, although they may start to play a role in the government’s goal to reach 100% electrification by 2021.
