Solar continues to impress.  News out from the California Economic Development says Sacramento is getting a solar module plant at McClelland Business Park. The 140,000 sqf site at the park will be the home to China Based Sunergy. This massive addition to the area is estimated to produce over 400 MW of modules annum, and will provide an impressive 200 jobs.  The facility is scheduled to open September of 2017.

The choice of Sacramento was made last summer after successful negotiations through GO-Biz. The highly automated facility is expected to have a huge impact on the California solar industry.    

“We are delighted make solid steps toward introducing CSUN-branded and Made-in-America solar modules to local customers,” stated Tingxiu Lu, Chairman and CEO of China Sunergy. “Our new state-of-the-art facility will have a positive impact on the Company’s strategy of expanding its market share in the U.S market and benefiting the development of local economy through the jobs created and investment made."

This is a big investment for the region, the major draw being cheap electric from SMUD, railway access, and robust support from local government and organizations. With the region supporting Sunergy it wasn’t hard for the China based company to make a 10 million dollar investment in the area.  The best part is zero public tax dollars went to the project. Local government did not provide any incentives or public money.  

The company was acquired out of Bankruptcy by Shunfeng International Clean Energy a major player in the US Solar Market. They also own a major stake in US based Suniva purchased in 2015 giving them a foothold through manufacturing facilities in Georgia and Michigan.
