Climate change and solar

Even climate change deniers have to admit that we are seeing an alarmingly dangerous fire season in California, widespread drought, and cataclysmic storms. Almost everyone is aware of the role that pollution plays in the warming of our planet. Despite some loud deniers, 97 percent of climate scientists recognize that man is the main cause of global warming. Climate change and environmental disaster becoming more common to this generation. It seems like every month, there’s another environmental disaster making the headlines. Fortunately, there are informed environmental activists committed to taking a stand. All over the globe, grassroots activists, dedicated scientists, environmental lobbyists, non-profit lawyers, green economists, sustainability-minded engineers, and eco-conscious entrepreneurs are working to halt climate change and alleviate environmental crimes and omissions. 

Climate change is managed by politicians

Especially in today’s world, individual citizens need to become more educated about the environment and what they can do to become a more environmentally aware citizen. We must challenge our fellow citizens to support the climate activists by pushing toward political change. For the past century and a half, corporations have used their wealth and power to control government officials and claim rights that should only belong to individual citizens.  While climate change deniers have long had an influence on our government, the current administration has bolstered their impact through:

Selecting climate change deniers and former CEOs for corporate boards

Limiting and defunding the EPA and withdrawal from the Paris Climate Accords,

Denouncing the media and declaring everything fake news, including the facts.

Corporations are enormous polluters and will not be motivated by anything other than their bottom line. Corporations like to claim the first amendment right to free speech. Because corporations are not actual people and therefore do not have a mouth to speak with, they badgered the courts until money was declared a form of protected speech, which made for unlimited corporate contributions in elections.

The resulting implications are disastrous as seen in Richmond, California where Chevron spent millions in a small, local election in efforts to ensure that its hand-picked candidate would hold office and support legislation favorable for its business operations. This can also be seen in the Trump administration’s tax plan that showers tax cuts on corporations and America’s wealthiest, opens up the Arctic refuge for drilling, and is supported by legislative officials receiving financial incentives from energy corporations and other big businesses. We must take action now to reverse the corporate foothold that puts profits before human beings and the planet.
