Solar energy transition despite Trump’s tariffs 

The Trump administration's tariff on solar panels, started at 30 percent and declines over time that is focused primarily at market-dominant Chinese products. The tariff isn’t expected to hurt profit of residential solar systems by adding 5 percent to a $10,000 to $20,000 price tag for a rooftop structure. With those who have a stake in solar, Florida will move from reliance on fossil fuels to renewables because it saves money and the planet. 
 

Co-ops are ad hoc groups work towards energy transition 

Florida is work in progress with the right mindset. The state ranks third for rooftop solar potential, and falls short to being 12th in place for installations within the country. They rely on developments to increase consumer awareness, encourage decisions to inspire municipal policies for solar energy. A consumer solar co-op movement called Solar United Neighbors (SUN) that’s assisting Florida towards its energy transition. The co-ops are ad hoc groups initiates proposals from solar installers and get the best deals. 
 

Solar facilities are launched 

Starting with a meager one co-op in late 2015, there are now two dozen in Florida. Builders are needed to make it standard to do solar. Renewable energy are making inroads against traditional power sources. Florida utilities are expanding their solar inventory as they meet goals for lowering emissions. Florida Power & Light, the state's biggest power company, launched 4 new solar facilities and closed a coal plant as FPL prepares to drop coal in the future. Florida regulates its utilities and is one of the few states that prevents independent power producers from competing against them. Backed by a Republican legislature and After a publicized battle, it lost to another ballot measure that promotes solar usage with tax abatements. In the first half of 2017, Florida solar installation permits increased 110 percent over the same period in 2016.

Net metering allows Florida solar customers to offset utility costs with surplus power from their generators, clouds the concern of solar expansion. It’s an uphill battle for customers requesting savings from utilities that are forced to reward them for using solar power. For now, Floridians who have the means and desire to go solar can expect more changes in political storm.
