Environmentally aware people all over the world are driving the solar revolution. Renewable energy is already cheaper than other energy options in most of the world.  but it comes with other economic and societal benefits as well. Due to the number of countries investing in renewable energy, the complexity of their national economies and their energy infrastructure details, it can’t all be covered in one article. But here are some key points on renewable energy.

Solar industry employment rising steadily

Employment in the renewable energy sector is rising globally. There are almost 10 million employed in renewable energy jobs around the world. Slightly over 3 million are employed in solar power. Large hydropower employs about 1.5 million people, and 1.2 million are in wind power employment. 

In the US, President Trump has promoted the coal industry, while ignoring the dangers to coal miners and those who breathe the air. According to a Washington Post article, the US coal industry employs about 76,000 workers. The Washington Post article omits renewable energy jobs. In truth, over 260,000 Americans are employed by the solar power industry, which is three times the number of coal-related jobs. In coal-mining states, solar could replace those dangerous, polluting jobs.

Wind power employs more than coal

The wind industry boasts approximately 100,000 jobs. Also, NREL published an article in 2017 stating that wind power technician was the fastest growing job in the country. The Trump Administration has been extremely ignorant when it comes to renewable energy. But those oil “fat cats” that elected him, are not going to allow renewable energy to become dominant in this country.

Solar jobs on the rise

One of the most in-demand jobs is a solar PV installer. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median pay for PV installers is about $39,000 per year.  For the wind power service tech job, the average salary is $52,000. Coal’s future looks as dismal as solar and wind power’s looks encouraging.
