The Smartflower, it’s no wallflower

The solar industry is constantly changing and evolving. One of the more unique solar products is called the Smartflower. Its a solar automation system inspired by a sunflower directing itself towards the sun. This eye popping item was developed by Alexandar Swatek and Thomas Daubek intended to be a solar photovoltaic sun tracking system. The Smartflower is a hyrbid between solar panels and art. It follows the aesthetical theme initiated by  the Tesla solar roof launch. This self-contained system unfolds its petal-panels at sunrise, pointing it petals toward the sun at a 90-degree angle. This action almost immediately begins to harvest electricity.  With the dual-axle sun tracking, the fan tracks the sun all day. At sunset, the petals automatically retract until sunrise. The Smartflower also automatically retract the petals when winds reach speeds of about 30 miles per hour. This protects the unit during dramatic weather changes especially hurricane-force winds. When the petals are fully extended, the solar flower is about 15.5 feet in diameter. The structure is about 194 square feet and creates approximately 2.5kW of electricity in peak sunlight conditions. The exact amount of power created  depend on the amount of sunlight it has access to. Reasonably this varies with both weather and seasonal conditions.

The solar flowers cost & additional advantages

The costs of a single Smartflower varies from $25,000 to $30,000 with a 25 - year warranty. The average cost is approximately $27,000. This comes out to about $10 per watt. But  given the extra production, it  creates the 2.5kW system equivalent to a normal 4kW roof mounted system. This then reduces the cost to about $6.50 per watt. The tax credit for the solar sunflower is  approximately $17,500. With a solar flower with an energy production output of up to 40 percent, it cuts the typical losses in output by up to 15 percent. It comes from the smart cooling and cleaning features. It works great for homeowners who either can't install residential rooftop solar panels.. The system allow the solar panels to cool through air passing under each petal daily . This results in about 10 percent more productivity for the petals overall.

Installing my Smartflower

A Smartflower Solar certified technician must install each unit in order to receive its warranty. Placing may require using a large forklift or crane. Connecting the unit to the home's electrical distribution system is highly recommended to be done by a  certified electrician. You’ll probably need to pour a concrete slab to attach the Smartflower or use a ground screw system for secure placement.

The product comes in eight different colors, can be installed in under an hour. If homeowners  move they can easily take the system with them. With its smart and incredible build, Smartflower just might be fueling the winds of change for the solar industry.
