Technological Advancement In Solar Power Drives Down Cost
The Solar Revolution can inspire the imagination. Some of us will imagine a futuristic world, with flying energy powered cars, hoverboards, friendly robots, and of course, clear blue skies. There are so many potentials to be harnessed. The ever-present nearest star, otherwise known as, "The Sun," is so robust, it has long fed the idea that all of mankind's heating and cooling requirements will one day be served by the sun alone; whereby we finally put to rest all non-renewable energy sources.
Controlling the massive potential of solar energy won't happen soon without a global scale type of acceptance and initiation of residential and commercial rooftop installation. For decades, that goal has been stopped by the precipitous cost of installation, putting the cost of solar beyond what many financially inhibited income households.
New Designs For Solar Offer Alternative Solutions
We must ask ourselves the burning question, what if there were an alternative solution? One that would not only cut the price of rooftop solar members but allow installation within a very short timespan? What if those components were quickly and safely connected to a home's electric system and the higher utility grid through a simple plug?
A renowned non-profit international clean energy applied R&D center, Analysis by the Fraunhofer USA Center for Sustainable Energy Systems CSE (Fraunhofer CSE), explains these goals are far from an unattainable dream. A design team at the lab newly tested and triumphantly deployed the Plug and Play Photovoltaic (PV) System pilot project. This project uses lightweight PV modules, solar-ready connectors, and specialized software to make the solar installation a fast, smooth, and trustworthy reality.
The system was so easy to use, a team of three people, with no prior PV installation experience, installed and commissioned a three-kilowatt Plug and Play system in less than 75 minutes.
Also beneficial, the Plug and Play PV system project brings the cost down to approximately $1.50 per watt at full installation This demonstrates less than half of the current U.S. average for PV systems. This system was designed with integrated system architecture, this system allows for remote permitting, inspection, and same-day approval.
Designs like "Plug and Play PV" are intended to identify the "soft costs" linked with rooftop solar, which hold permit fees, equipment financing, specific installers, marketing, and more.
Solar Innovation
Supported by the U.S. Department of Energy's SunShot Initiative, the Plug and Play PV project is one of many hopeful technologies that can lower the price limit and maintain further widespread deployment of solar power. Current indications imply the market is growing more responsive.
Even Tesla CEO Elon Musk unveiled an integrated solar roof and a battery storage product. This late-2016 design was created to cut the price of rooftop installation immensely. The Solar Energy Industries Association maintains to support the lower-cost benefits of "building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV)," which are intended to assist as the external layer of a building. They will also be generating electricity for on-site use or export to the greater known utility grid.
