How solar power is saving the earth

The importance of containing pollution cannot be overstated. Climate scientists keep telling us what the problem is and how to stop it, but lawmakers under the influence of oil and coal companies have different priorities. For several different reasons, a growing number of households are choosing to install solar panels on their home. For many, this is to help contribute to a cleaner world. For others, their solar installation is all about a reduction in their energy costs. By using the power that you’ve generated on your own roof, you can eliminate your electric bill and become less reliant on the power grid.  However, solar power is also a great sustainable, green energy option that is earth-friendly at a time when it has become imperative that we decrease our carbon footprint. Solar energy doesn’t only have the advantage of decreasing your electricity bills; it also has wide-ranging compensations for our planet. But the key to success in achieving the world's climate aims is for millions of homes and businesses to install a solar energy system. Climate scientists report that their rather gloomy initial projections were really much too positive and we must begin to reduce our carbon emissions quickly. Solar power is the obvious solution especially since solar is such an attractive investment. Who wouldn't want to generate their own energy? Some of the key advantages of solar energy in the environment include:

Solar energy requires less water

Water is one of our most precious and increasingly endangered natural resources. We live on one of the driest continents on the planet, and we run the risk of running out of fresh water in the near term. Traditional electricity production uses thousands of gallons of water each year. Water is used for cooling generators, processing, and refining fuel and transferring fuel through pipes. Producing power through solar panels, however, uses no water whatsoever. The performance of solar photovoltaic cells doesn’t need water to generate electricity, reducing the strain on this fragile resource. The only water needed is rainwater to naturally wash the panels when they get dirty.

Solar helps overcome air pollution

Burning fossil fuels has changed our urban air into smog unfit for anyone to breathe. Electricity generation from fossil fuels causes harmful carbon dioxide and methane gases that lower the quality of the air we breathe. Breathing poor quality air daily can have frightful consequences for our health. Air pollution has been linked to asthma and allergies, bronchitis, pneumonia, headaches, anxiety, heart attacks and some cancers. Using the sun to make more and more of our power means less and less harmful releases from burning fossil fuels. Generating electricity from solar panels generate no harmful emissions, and the more homes and businesses that rely on solar power means less harmful emissions from fossil fuels into our air.  With solar energy powering a home or business, there is no combustion of fuel and no emissions from energy production.

Lessening your household’s carbon footprint with solar

Solar energy is the cleanest source of energy, and it’s an extremely practical way of making your household more efficient and sustainable. Solar panels don’t use any water to produce electricity at a time when water scarcity, especially in the western states is a huge problem. Solar panels don’t issue harmful gases into the environment, and the source of their energy is omnipresent and, best of all, free. Using solar energy instead of the fossil fuel-based electricity from the grid also means you overcome the need for carbon dioxide releasing energy to be produced for the grid on your behalf. With even a small solar power system installed on your home, you can help decrease your household’s carbon footprint.

Now is a great time to join the solar revolution!
