How Going Solar Will Change the World

With the release of the UN’s climate change report, many people are now terrified of their futures - or lack thereof. While it would be nice to sugar coat everything and say it will be fine, the fact of the matter is, the change to renewable and clean energies is more important right now than ever before. Keep reading to learn exactly how your switch over to solar will help change the world, protect the environment, and perhaps even save the world.

Replacing fossil fuels is the top priority.

It’s no secret that the manufacturing of solar panels causes pollution, but that’s nothing compared to the pollution caused by fossil fuels, which emit carbon dioxide and make up the majority of greenhouse gas emissions. On top of that, small amounts of methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide (N2O) are also produced. Harmful gases like these are the leading contributors to climate change and an increase in pollution. Air pollution can cause cardiovascular and respiratory illness and even long-term damage to various organs. However, generating electricity with solar panels produces no greenhouse gases and significantly decreases carbon emissions. Even one household switching to solar and generating cleaner air will make a difference and will also serve as an example to neighbors.

Creating an increase in our clean water supply.

Thermoelectric power plants, natural gas, and coal-fired facilities require a massive amount of water which, in turn, pollutes said water and creates water scarcity. Coal-fired power plants alone account for 72% of all water pollution in the United States and have been linked to serious health problems like cancer and neurological damage. Every year, power utilities dump millions of tons of toxic pollutants into our nation’s waterways. While most manufacturing processes require some water, solar cells convert sunlight directly into electricity without requiring any water. This means that replacing traditional energy with solar will also increase our clean water supply.

Decrease your carbon footprint when you switch to solar.

Installing solar panels is an excellent option for many families who want to help the environment. By installing solar panels onto your roof, you can reduce your impact on the environment by generating power with no pollution. Average consumption will produce enough clean energy to offset the emissions from 19,638 miles driven by an average vehicle, 902 gallons of gasoline ignited, and 8,766 pounds of coal burned. Just switching over to solar power will decrease your carbon footprint by a massive amount and provide a huge help to the environment.

Solar energy is a renewable energy source, unlike fossil fuels.

Fossil fuels are nonrenewable energy sources. This means they can’t be easily replaced by natural means on a level equal to its consumption. Eventually, the world will be depleted of fossil fuels, and the world will be forced to switch over to renewable energy resources. Solar energy, on the other hand, is a renewable energy resource. Solar energy is the most abundant energy resource we have with 173,000 terawatts of solar energy striking the Earth continuously — that’s more than 10,000 times the world’s total power consumption. As long as the sun is there, we’ll have energy from it. When the sun dies, we’ll have much bigger problems than keeping the lights on. Switching to solar energy is the best way to protect against the reality of finite fuel resources that will eventually become an energy crisis.
