Solar Power Will Run All Day Long

Some people seem to think that solar is only available during the day, and that they can’t use it at night. While it makes sense that this is why they haven’t made the switch to solar yet, it also doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. After all, were that true, solar would have never taken off at all. The truth is that solar energy runs all day long, including nights and cloudy, rainy, and cold days. So, how is that possible? Keep reading this blog to learn how!

Your solar system captures energy from the sun during the day.

During the day, your solar panel system is absorbing energy from the sun all day long, even when it’s cloudy outside. Your inverter then transfers that absorbed energy from DC to AC energy, then pushes that into your home to generate usable energy. While it’s true that solar panels aren’t as efficient on cloudy days, they are still doing their job. And while some people think the cold affects their energy generation, that isn’t true at all. Your panels only absorb light from the sun, not heat, and work the same regardless of the temperature (unless they get covered in ice or start to overheat, but those are different issues).

Your solar system uses its stored solar power at night.

How you get your energy at night depends on which kind of system you’re on.

If you’re off the grid, you’ll have batteries that store your power during the day so that you can use it at night. You won’t have a utility company to keep you covered, so you’ll have to ensure you have enough solar panels and enough batteries to keep you covered all night long.

If you’re on the grid, your utility company will supply you your energy at night. This is where your bill comes in. You’ll pay for your energy at night (and any extra energy you need during the day). But if you produce excess energy, you can offset those bills partly or completely by selling back your excess energy.

You also might have a hybrid system, in which you’re on the grid but have a battery storage system, as well. This is a great way of using net metering to your advantage because you’ll produce even more excess energy and be able to power your home at night at no cost to you.

Solar energy is a renewable resource that doesn’t run out.

While it’s true that if you don’t generate enough energy, you won’t have that energy available to you at night, the sun itself is an energy resource that never runs out, unlike fossil fuels. You won’t have to worry about your energy source running out. You won’t have to worry about the constantly fluctuating prices of traditional energies. You won’t have to worry about causing dangerous and damaging pollution to the environment. In every single way, solar power is the optimal way to get your energy, and you should be taking advantage of it sooner rather than later.
