Four Ways Solar is Helping Our Environment

When it comes to going solar, one of the top reasons people consider doing it is because they know it helps the environment. However, a lot of people don’t know exactly how it does that. Because of the reign of fossil fuels, going solar has never been as important as it is right now. The UN just released their climate change report illustrating just how horrifying these fossil fuels are and what they’re doing to harm our planet. The only way to stop them is to go solar. Let’s look at some ways going solar will help.

1. Fossil fuels cause greenhouse gases, solar decreases them.

Fossil fuels produce an enormous amount of greenhouse gases that are the leading cause of climate change on our planet. Don’t be mistaken, all energy causes pollution, but by going fully solar, the amount produced will be so much less that we can actually reverse the damaging effects of climate change. During the manufacturing of the solar panels, pollution still occurs, but as soon as that’s done, the panels are a completely green energy. Fossil fuels, on the other hand, continue polluting the environment in things like smog, which add to our pollution after their production into fuel.

2. Fossil fuels help cause water pollution.

Unlike fossil fuels, solar systems don’t need water to run. Coal, gas, and biomass all use a lot of the earth’s water during their production and refinement, causing the pollution of our water and creating a huge problem when people like those in Flint end up drinking it. If we were to go totally solar, this problem could start to be eliminated, so that we would no longer have to worry about water contaminating our bodies and destroying entire ecosystems.

3. Fossil fuels are not renewable.

A massive advantage of solar is that it’s totally renewable. Until the sun goes out and we all go out with it, it will keep shining every single day, and we’ll always be able to rely on it to provide us with energy. By as soon as the 2080’s, fossil fuels are projected to be completely gone. When that happens, people will have no choice but to switch over to a renewable source. So doesn’t it make sense for them to just start doing it now and avoid that troubling situation in the future?

4. Solar is providing our communities with jobs, new industry, and safety.

The solar industry is growing more and more each year. Last year alone, 250,000 new jobs were created, which in turn reduces unemployment in our communities. The economic benefits of a new, growing industry also cannot be ignored. As more and more people start installing solar, and with states like California starting to make it mandatory, solar is becoming a booming industry. With economic growth comes growth to the worldwide economy, and thus, solar can begin to improve the lives of people all over the world starting from one hometown.

On top of all that, solar is providing our communities with safety by ensuring we live long enough to see all its impacts and more and more generations that adopt solar. If climate change wipes out the planet, unfortunately, it will take all of our communities and families with it. By going solar, we are helping to reduce climate change and bring environmental safety to our world.
