Solar power and greenhouse emissions

Everyone seems to be talking about greenhouse gases, climate change, and global warming these days. It's no wonder. In today’s world, pollution is a tremendous problem in urban areas, particularly in China and India. In American cities such as Los Angeles, air pollution is less of a problem since emission standards were enacted decades ago. But pollution remains a significant health issue due to the constant burning of fossil fuels. Renewable energy sources such as solar, are becoming increasingly popular for a number of valid reasons. First, solar provides the possibility to generate your own energy. This is a compelling incentive for most home and business owners. The use of other energy sources, such as fossil fuels, is not wise because they're non-renewable and highly polluting. Once these resources are exhausted, they will no longer help us. Fossil fuels are expected to last only another forty or fifty years and we need to have alternative forms of energy in place before that time. The greenhouse gases spread by fossil fuels have caused thousands of premature deaths and various illnesses. Most of these are respiratory difficulties caused by breathing polluted air. According to the Union of Concerned Scientists, 18 days worth of sunlight on earth generates almost the same amount of energy as the amount stored in all of the coal, oil and natural gas reserves on the earth. Clearly, harnessing the sun’s power and making it accessible to home and business owners is a primary goal for the future quality of life on earth.

What are the health benefits of solar?

Solar power generation does not release any greenhouse gases. This means the health problems you and your family face because of air pollution, such as breathing problems, allergies, neurological disorders, heart attack, and cancer, will be reduced as the number of solar-powered homes and businesses increase. Solar power is much healthier for the world’s water supply, as well, because solar power creation needs no water, compared to natural gas extraction, which uses fracking, and requires important amounts of water. Water is a significant issue to consider in the American West and solar can be an immense help. Thermal power plants need water for cooling. Solar energy generates power even if water isn't regularly available, and it does not add pollutants to the water supply, while both coal mining and natural gas drilling often pollute with devastating results to the population of living creatures.

Wide distribution makes solar power more stable

Similar to wind energy systems, solar energy systems are modular and scattered around a wide area instead of being concentrated in one area. This lack of a central location ensures that the severe weather conditions affecting one area won't negatively affect an entire solar energy system. One of the best examples of how solar energy systems aid customers happened in 2012 during Hurricane Sandy. The hurricane damaged electrical generation systems that employed fossil fuels, which left huge populations of New York and New Jersey without power. Conversely, other areas affected by the hurricane in the Northeast used clean energy systems, and they had much fewer problems. It’s way past time to explore the possibilities for energy savings, protecting delicate ecosystems and saving money. The sun is a massive power source, and the world is only scratching the surface in solar energy use. In the future, technological innovations will make solar panels cheaper and more efficient. Switching to solar energy provides a secure energy source that doesn’t have grid outages, and it has significant benefits for the earth and everyone's overall quality of life.

There has never been a better time to install a solar energy system!
