Net metering economically “stores” power for later use. In this way full net metering allows customers to reduce the variable component of their usage bill.

For an ordinary PEC customer owning a single family home and with a power bill of $184 per month, the total expense for installing a 10.41kW solar system is $32,479, which is $3.12 per watt. Upfront incentives (including the 30% federal solar tax credit) decrease this cost by $9,744 making the net cost $22,736. That's certainly an amount of money.
