The effects of global warming are driving the adoption of renewable energy sources. There is only so much pollution one planet can take. If we analyze only China and India, we see urban areas completely choked with thick smog caused by burning oil and coal. So the Chinese have built a lot more coal-fired plants. This makes no sense, especially in light of China's huge foray into solar energy. The world is also blessed that India is finally entering a huge period of solar energy development. According to NASA, 2015 was the hottest year since man started measuring the temperature of the earth. This was not an isolated case, but a constant trend from the year 2000 to today; the biggest offender is the global warming associated with human activity, along with emissions of greenhouse gases (GHGs) as a by-product of burning fossil fuels.
Despite all these sincere efforts, the consensus is that the solution is still a long way away, and those big companies just don’t do enough. Fortunately, corporations are discovering that solar and wind power sources make sense financially as well as environmentally.
Humans must begin to take better care of the planet. By burning oil and coal at these rates, we are speeding up the most frightening projections climate scientists made years ago. Climate change debate is usually discussed starting with three basic premises. The first concerns a moral duty: many believe it’s our responsibility to take care of the planet for future generations because we only have one earth. The second assumption is ecological: the climate damage for which we are responsible is also to blame for natural disasters, which kill many thousands of people. The third assumption discusses the juxtaposition of progress and environment: progress means economic growth, and economic growth of an individual or a nation is linked with increased pollution: progress demands energy, and access to energy is ever more at the cost of the climate.
However, the truth is that facing up to climate change is considered by big companies and governments to be fairly important, but not very convenient. It’s a case of having to bear the brunt of immediate costs in the present, in order to reap the rewards in the future. The industrial revolution instituted “ progress” that has continued to be accomplished at the cost of the planet we live on. Predictions suggest that in 2040 demand for solar electricity is expected to have grown by 70%. Consequently, we cannot afford to continue to think of the earth as a disposable resource, to be used without proper forethought. The fossil fuels we use now will be gone in a few decades and it will be extremely important we are prepared when the time comes. How do we prepare ourselves? By adopting every alternative energy solution possible to attempt to counteract the poisonous legacy of our forefathers.
Fortunately, renewable energy sources help to solve this problem, because they drastically transform energy availability. Solar power is improving due to technological breakthroughs and solar panels are becoming cheaper and more efficient. We need to build convenient, tangible alternatives until a new alternative technology is adopted. However, there are still many that believe that resorting to renewable sources is still impractical from an economic point of view when compared to the use of fossil fuels. Now that the prices of solar panels are dropping on a regular basis, alternatives to fossil fuels are more prevalent than ever before.
