About Light Energy

Lighting plays a crucial role in most lifestyles across the globe. It provides by natural sunlight. Efficiency is an important consideration but is should not be the only criteria used.

In most cases, a more efficient light source can be replaced for a less efficient source with little or no loss in visibility or color rendition. When broken down further, light energy is the only form of energy that we can actually see directly.

Energy makes things take place and move. It is created through chemical and mechanical means. Light energy can also be converted into other forms of energy - like solar energy.

Visible light is the only type of electromagnetic energy that we can see with the naked eye, or in other words, without the aid of a microscope, telescope, or other instruments. The sun is our primary source of visible light, but it can also be emitted by light bulbs, lanterns, flashlights, and other devices.

For example, if your skin absorbs too much light energy from the Sun, you will get a sunburn. This is because the light is a form of energy. A lot of light energy comes from the Sun. When this light energy reaches Earth, it makes a lot of different things happen.

One of the most important things it does is help plants grow. This light energy also helps keep Earth warm.

Force x Distance = Work

The energy of an object is how much work the object can do on some other object. It’s vital to recognize how the connection between energy and work relate to one another.

Laws of Conservation of Energy

The law of conservation of energy notes that energy cannot be created or destroyed. It can only be transformed from one form to another as well as transferred from one body to another but the total energy remains the same.

The standard unit of measurement for energy is the Joule (J)

Power is measured in joules per second and this is called the Watt (W). This is defined as the rate work is done.

1 Watt = 1 Joule/Second

It can be the rate at which energy is consumed or power is generated.

The Watt is used to measure the rate that an electric light bulb changes electrical energy into light energy. And this is what we optimize in our everyday lives as light.

The key answer is economic and educational empowerment. There are many solar initiatives worldwide with the common mission to provide and educate solar-powered opportunities to the underdeveloped and developing worlds.

For example, Akon Lighting's "Solar Academy" is a popularly rising solar initiative, backed by Senegalese-American rapper Akon. This project focuses on teaching African engineers and entrepreneurs how to install and maintain solar-powered electricity systems and microgrids.

Akon says several issues with the initiative has faced as it moves toward its goal but noted that many of the academy’s challenges came during the initial stages of the project launch.
