Solar leads the way on renewable energy

The move toward renewable energy sources is happening, but some scientists say we may already too late to avert the most catastrophic consequences of global warming. Climate experts studying the polar ice caps and glaciers are discovering that their projections were too optimistic. The planet is warming at a rate much faster than expected. Global warming continues to be the prime mover for alternative energy sources. From wind to water, alternative energy technology continues to change how we power our homes, office buildings, and even our cars. But solar power remains the front-runner in the alternate energy industry. Solar energy is harnessed through photovoltaic (PV) cells. These cells directly turn sunlight into electricity, allowing solar energy to power homes, businesses, and other buildings. This technology is nothing new. Prehistoric man used the sun to heat their homes. Scientists discovered that sunlight alone could be converted into electric power via solar cells in 1876. The first commercial solar cells became available in 1956, and U.S. and Russia’s space programs utilized solar to power satellites in the late ’50s and early ’60s. Solar cells became much more affordable starting in the 1970s, and the solar’s technological breakthroughs have made it much more efficient as scientists, inventors, and others investigate the intriguing possibilities of solar.

Solar power has grown by 68 percent over the last decade

Over the last 10 years, solar energy use has grown by 68%. For some people, change can be hard, but switching to solar energy offers so many benefits, it is sometimes foolish to NOT install solar panels on your roof. After all, solar means generating your own power, free from power outages and price hikes from greedy fossil fuel producers.

Solar is much more friendly to the environment

The environment has taken such a beating, that it’s heartening to see the increase in solar power installations. Becoming more environmentally responsible has been a trend for the last few years, and it is slowing, even in spite of climate deniers like President Donald Trump.

Solar provides a high return on investment

With solar panels, you will save money on your monthly energy bill which quickly helps to balance out the installation cost of the panels. As an added benefit, solar panels typically add significant value to your home. If you generate more power with your solar system than you can use, you may be able to sell the excess electricity back to the power company. In a competitive market, having solar panels could be the factor that sets your home apart from others in the area. This means less time on the market and a quicker sale! Who wouldn’t want a home that generates its own power?
