Signs solar power is winning

State-level support for renewables energy power continues to have a mass influence, corporate buyers have created wind and solar as bottom line benefits that rise above political bias. Overtime, it’s appearing like political bias is starting to fold.

Republicans in North Carolina won primary elections

In North Carolina politics, a few Republican candidates who highly support clean power  won their  primary elections. This has been a huge turnaround for the state, since there’s been anti-wind sentiment in last several years.
North Carolina State Senate candidate Bob Steinberg states, “There were folks on the other side that were hoping that issue would be my Achilles heel. These are primary voters. These are the most conservative of the conservative,” said Steinburg, who is serving his third term in the North Carolina House. “But being for renewable energy — it did not hurt me at all.”  North Carolina is one of the nation’s top solar leaders. With a pro-renewables Governor in office, this year’s could be an exciting and progressing season for North Carolina’s clean power profile.

Clean energy on a municipal level

On the municipal level, the politics of renewable energy is evolving. An instance of this would be that the Republican-leaning Texas city of Georgetown, Texas. Georgetown announced years ago, that their goal is  to be a 100% clean power. The goal depended on clean energy purchases from out of town. Georgetown is has decided to transition to 100% on site and local sources.

Earlier this year, another economic force at work took place in a  Louisiana town of Abita Springs, that’s known to be “consistently Republican county [aka parish] where 73 percent of voters supported Donald Trump in the 2016 presidential election, and every elected local official is Republican.” Abita Springs has emerged into a hipster tourist destination. The developing tourist economy combined with the threat of a new fracking operation near the town’s high school maybe the reasons for leaning towards cleaner alternatives. The city’s legislators joined the Sierra Club’s Ready for 100 renewable energy campaign.Although Abita Springs has a long journey towards a 100% goal, a local utility’s new gas-fired power plant created an obstacle for buying offsite clean power. Despite being limited with government funding, they’ve established energy efficiency upgrades so the progress is on track.

Another prime example is Lancaster, California, which has been given the name, “clean energy powerhouse” for its aggressive pursuit of solar power under a Republican mayor. They’re also on track to become a net producer of clean energy, due to  a streamlined permitting process that allows installation to gain approval in about 15 minutes. Lastly, they are courting the idea of investing in a new transmission line  would sells its excess solar power to Los Angeles.
