Global warming can be reversed

Some climate scientists have the opinion that the earth is polluted beyond the point of redemption. Scientists in basic agreement on climate science

Experts generally agree that the carbon footprint of the nation's energy economy in the decades ahead will mirror its record on using, conserving and replacing fossil fuels. But if the solar revolution continues to grow, projections will become much more positive. In one relatively bright spot, researchers project that energy efficiency and the use of more clean energy will diminish the carbon footprint of the average American from about 16 tons to about 13 tons over the next several decades. Americans are the most wasteful people on the planet. Americans contribute more than twice as much carbon dioxide per capita as do Chinese or Europeans, and vastly more than people in developing nations. Americans have accounted for most of the greenhouse gas that is currently in the air. By some estimates, the world can afford only a buildup of about 200 billion more tons of carbon dioxide before it breaks its most difficult carbon budget. The total accumulation of pollution would allow a 66 percent chance of limiting warming since the start of the industrial era to 1.5 degrees Celsius. Emissions described in this new report, the U.S. carbon footprint from this year to 2050 would add up to 179 billion tons—close to the whole planet's budget under those estimates, and more than what a reasonable person could plausibly consider the nation's fair share.
