Is It Your Time To Go Solar?

You know solar is a good idea. You've seen the solar panel systems on your neighbors’ roofs and have been hearing them brag about the savings on their electric bill for the last year.  They are out front, shouting at the top of their lungs daily about how much money they are saving.  You have called the police, but, they are so jealous, they have just let your neighbors run wild. So why are you waiting for, get your solar panels and join them? Now is the time to get your solar panel, scream-inducing, and gloat promoting system installed.

Declining Solar Expenses

The expense of solar has been declining each year, but this doesn’t mean you should anticipate for it to drop more. For one thing, the equipment expenses are about as cheap as they can get. At this point more than half of the expense to install a system price is labor and that is not getting any more reasonable in the foreseeable future.

You also are required to consider the money hemorrhaging from your wallet while you wait. The overall expense of solar, solar installation has sunk to about 2% in the last year.  That suggests a $30,000 system is $600 less than it was last year. However, that system will produce about $2,500 worth of electricity in a year. So, if you did not install last year, you squandered $1,900 waiting for the price break. Don’t execute that mistake again this year, dumb dumb.

Another point to consider to stop dragging your feet is that government incentives don’t persist into the eternal future. If there is a state or local deduction you can get, exert advantage of that now. Most discounts and SREC programs are intended to end when a certain number of megawatts of solar are installed. This indicates the sooner you get your paperwork in, the more likely you are to get a slice of that cake.

Even the federal tax credit is not perpetually here to stay. The current 30% volume is set to drop for systems installed after 12/31/19 before it ends entirely in 2021. This indicates there is going to be a craze of installs next year as all the procrastinators get on board to get the complete tax credit. Solar installers can only arrange to work with so many installs so it is helpful to call one now and beat the charge.

If you are worried because you don’t become a significant tax liability this year, you should nevertheless get your solar installed now. Take what you can claim of the tax credit, and the rest can roll over to future years for as long as the tax credit is still available.

Tax Credits Matter For Solar

Also, the tax credit matters even if you are preparing to lease your system. When you go solar utilizing a lease or PPA program, the lease or PPA corporation is taking that tax credit and calculating it into your payment, so it is still important to be watchful of the deadline on it.

Some folks put off solar because they are pondering selling their home, but this could also be a costly mistake. A current bit of research done by Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory showed that adding solar to a home increases by an average of $4/watt. This is more than the price of a standard system, especially after you calculate in the 30% federal tax credit and any state or local incentives you may be able to receive. So, not only will you save money each month before you put the home on the market, but investigations show you will presumably sell your house faster and turn a profit on your newly installed solar.
